Grenzenlos
In Slavic mythology, we know Baba Yaga as a wild, unpredictable, often dangerous female figure. And that's exactly what the band Baba Yaga sounds like: spirited Balkan tunes mixed with virtuoso Klezmer pieces, lively gypsy jazz and sensual, oriental dances. The five young musicians from Austria, Montenegro and Israel will heat you up with violin, double bass, accordion, guitar, vocals and percussion and get you dancing, celebrating and reaching ecstasy.

After two years of intensive collaboration, the time has finally come: Baba Yaga presented their first album on June 5, 2024 at the Vienna Metropol. The album is entitled
The title is “Grenzenlos” and is supported by the Austrian Music Fund. You can purchase it now!

Über Baba Yaga
Das Bandprojekt besteht schon seit einigen Jahren, doch die derzeitige Besetzung entwickelte sich erst 2023. Getroffen haben sich die MusikerInnen allesamt in Wien, teils übers Jazz-Studium, teils über andere Bandprojekte, bei denen bereits gemeinsam musiziert wurde.
Die fünf Mitglieder komponieren und arrangieren gemeinsam, treffen sich zum Proben in Wien und sehen in Baba Yaga ein wunderbares Musikprojekt, bei dem es um Gemeinschaft, pure Lebensfreude und musikalische Abenteuer geht. Jedes Mitgllied bringt andere Stärken mit sich, man wächst gemeinsam und entwickelt ganz Neues.
Nachdem nun das erste Album Grenzenlos so erfolgreich rezipiert wurde, geht es dieses Jahr auch auf internationale Bühnen nach Frankreich und Deutschland.
Anela Čindrak spielt mit hoher Virtuosität und Kreativität Akkordeon. Die junge Musikerin kommt aus Montenegro und spielt seit 2023 bei Baba Yaga.
Anela ist der Sonnenschein der Band und bringt mir ihrer fröhlichen Stimmung alle zum Strahlen.
David kommt aus der Wachau, studierte in Wien Jazz- und Popgitarre und nun Jazzkomposition in Graz. Er spielt seit 2023 bei Baba Yaga und ist mittlerweile nicht mehr aus der Band wegzudenken. David ist Baba Yagas Ruhepol und kreativer Thinktank.
Florian Gunacker ist die stabile Basis der Band, sowohl musikalisch als auch kollegial. Er spielt Kontrabass, singt und komponiert groovige Lines.
Florian studierte Jazzbass und spielt seit 2020 bei Baba Yaga. Die Band ist sein Herzensprojekt.
Jasmin sing und spielt Percussion - und zwar beides zugleich!
Sie studierte Jazzgesang und ist das harmonische Zentrum der Band. Sie bringt gute Laune in die Runde. Jasmin hat israelische Wurzeln und singt unter anderem auf Hebräisch und Jiddisch.
Raffaella della Gemma spielt Jazzvioline, singt und tanzt wild über die Bühne. Sie lernte Jasmin am Konservatorium kennen.
Raffaella trägt den Beinamen della Gemma weil er auf Deutsch für Let's go steht aber auch auf einen Juwel hinweist.

Mit diesen dramatischen Worten beginnt "Raffaella's Flower". Inspiriert von einem leidenschaftlichen, aber dennoch untröstlichen Gemälde der mexikanischen Künstlerin Frida Kahlo komponierte Raffaella della Gemma das Stück, welches die Schönheit, aber auch die Angst vor der Vergänglichkeit der Liebe ausdrückt. Der Song ist auch auf dem Album Grenzenlos zu hören.
Das künstlerische Musikvideo wurde von Jay Choma produziert. Ein großes Dankschön geht an Christa und Hannes Gstöttenmayr der Galerie Neunzendorf (Oberösterreich), welche uns ihren paradiesisch schönen Garten zum Dreh zur Verfügung gestellt haben.

Our brand new music video for our song "Járbă, máré járbă" is an ode to summer: We dance on the fresh, green meadow, framed by blossoming trees in the sunset and sing the beautiful Romani song Járbă, máré járbă.
